JUNIOR GIRL SCOUT BADGE WORKSHOPS

The CRRA Trash Museum in Hartford offers three special two-hour workshops for Junior Girl Scouts to earn badges. Here are descriptions of the badges that Junior Girl Scouts can earn:

ART-TO-WEAR

Who says recycling can’t be fashionable? During this workshop, scouts will create several wearable trash treasures, and learn more about the importance of recycling and reuse through several art projects. Scouts will get the chance to model their creations at our one-of-a-kind fashion show, "Recycling Hits the Runway!"

OIL-UP

Where in the world do natural resources come from? Each team plots locations of countries rich in identified natural resources and uncovers a variety of customs and traditions unique to those areas. Scouts learn about oil, the natural resource for plastics and the importance of conservation. They follow the path of an oil drop and examine the effects of oil spills, gaining a greater appreciation about wise resource use.

PRINTS & GRAPHICS

In this workshop, scouts unleash their creativity by examining and discovering a variety of printing techniques. They will make a one of a kind reusable journal with a decorative cover. Using natural materials and reusable items, they will craft a collage and then print unique designs utilizing styrofoam tray stamps. Their artistic talents are put to test drawing themed posters about the benefits of reduce, reuse and recycling.
