GROUP SIZE

Educator-led group tours are available to groups of five or more. Each group should be no more than 30 participants. The museums often have two or three educators available to guide at the same time, so we sometimes accommodate 75 people divided into three groups.

AVAILABLE TIMES FOR TOURS

Tours run Tuesday through Friday starting at 9 a.m. and ending at 3:45 p.m. Depending on the age of the participants, tours generally run from one hour to one and one-half hours.

THE COST

Begining September 1, 2008, the CRRA Garbage Museum (only) has instituted a fee for an educator-led tour. A charge of applicable fees is listed below. We continue, however, to offer a special program at The CRRA Trash Museum that provides no-cost busing to any school in the city of Hartford.

$37.50 per educator-led group (30 students maximum)
1 to 1½ hour program
Teachers/chaperones - no charge

Non-Project School Groups:

$75 per educator-led group (30 students maximum)
1 to 1½ hour program
Teachers/chaperones – no charge

Scout days/Scout Programs:

$2 per scout
$2 per sibling
$2 per adult  (no charge for under age 3 years)

Family Events:

$2 per person (no charge for under age 3 years)

Public Visitors:

$2 per person (no charge for under age 3 years)

Project Member In-Class/Off-site Assembly Programs:

$  50 - up to 50 students
$100 - 51 to 100 students
$150 - 101 to 150 students
$200 - over 151 students

Non-Project Member In-Class/Off-site Assembly Programs:

$100 - up to 50 students
$200 - 51 to 100 students
$300 - 101 to150 students
$400 - over 151 students

Membership Rates (public visitors)

$25 - per family (yearly rate) project

 

HARTFORD SCHOOLS PROGRAM

The Connecticut Resources Recovery Authority and the City of Hartford are sponsoring trips for classes from Hartford schools to visit the CRRA Trash Museum in Hartford. The program was initiated to increase the awareness of recycling in the City of Hartford, and through this awareness encourage action.  The visit and the bus transportation are provided at no cost to the schools. The tours take place from November to June.  Trips will be scheduled on a first come, first served basis.  Please contact the CRRA Trash Museum at (860) 757-7765 for additional information.

 

BOOKING A GROUP TOUR

To book a tour of the CRRA Trash Museum in Hartford, call (860) 757-7765. To book a tour of the CRRA Garbage Museum in Stratford, call (203) 381-9571. The following information will be requested:

  • Name of school or organization
  • Contact person's name
  • Phone number
  • E-mail address
  • Address
  • Number in group
  • Age or grade of participants
  • Date and time for tour (Try to have several options available.)
  • Activity choice (See choices in Group Programs.)
  • If interested, request pre- and post-lesson plans
  • Let us know if you plan to visit our gift shop. An additional 15 minutes will be scheduled.
  • If from a school in Hartford, confirm that the museum will arrange for the bus transportation. Let us know if you need a wheelchair accessible bus or any special accommodation with transportation.
  • After you receive your written confirmation of the group tour, complete and return the bottom of the form to the museum to finalize the confirmation.

We ask that you arrive on time, as other groups may be scheduled around you, and we may not be able to make up lost time.
