BRIDGEPORT PROJECT / SOUTHWEST DIVISION -- PLANNING

The original municipal service agreements between member cities and towns and the Bridgeport Project expired in 2008. CRRA has created a new system in which 14 of those cities and towns deliver their trash to the Bridgeport trash-to-energy facility at a lower cost.

In place of the Greater Bridgeport Solid Waste Advisory Board (SWAB, a new interlocal agreement created the Solid Waste Operating Committee (SWOC) which will oversee the new arrangement.

CRRA is now looking to develop future options for the region's recycling needs. The current recycling facility in Stratford is 15 years old, and many municipalities are interested in converting to single-stream recycling, which across the country has led to dramatic increases in recycling tonnages and participation.
